Kudos to the talented and creative students of Grade 7. The Rock Cycle: this topic of geography was dealt with in an interesting way where the understanding was integrated with performing art - Music. The entire process was understood easily by way of a rock cycle song . https://youtu.be/53lMdHzvGCQ MATHEMATICSStudents were given some data to find its relevance and to depict it in graphical representation. Students already had some prior knowledge of data handling. Taking it forward, students understood more about graphs and displayed the data on a single and double bar graph. Students played dice and coin game to find out “How many Times” its outcomes in different situations and with this they learnt to find the Probability of occurrence in an event. ICTDuring the ICT lessons, students were introduced to Animation through an Animation Software – Animate CC. Using Animate CC they learned the basics of Flash, its tools, frame and key frames. They also explored how to animate a shape and text using shape twinning. They learned to draw an image frame by frame and process to give it motion twinning showing the effects of movements. SCIENCECHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY It was an experiential learning for the grade VII students when they visited the lab and did hands-on experiments to find the composition of the soil. The experiment was followed by a lab activity reflection sheet as a check for their understanding. They not only came to know about the various components like clay, silt, water and gravel but also calculated the percolation rate of water in various types of soil. The students and the facilitator brought various samples of soil from their respective neighbourhood and calculated the percentage of water absorbed by the soil. PHYSICS Students discussed about the radiation mode of heat transfer by analysing the amount of heat radiated first by the sun and then by various objects on the ground. They understood that shiny surfaces radiate more heat. For all this they went out and took a [H1] walk and differentiated between convection and radiation mode of heat transfer. They also discussed the application of radiation and function and structure of thermo flask. ART & POTTERYStudents made posters on ‘Save Tiger’ as a part of the campaign to bring about awareness and the urgent need to Save the majestic animal .They understood the technicalities of drawing the poster by first understanding the elements to draw animal with landscape. It helped students learn about the evolution of electronics. They covered the concepts related to ‘Circuits’ including open and closed circuit. They also learnt about the breadboard and its use. They learnt about series and parallel connections in a circuit and were able to make a circuit using 3 LEDS in series and parallels. They also learnt about different types of switches and their use in real life by building a staircase using multiple switches. Through these activities Students were able to relate the conceptual knowledge with real life situations Here are few a glimpses of children while they are engaged in the activity: NATIONAL SCIENCE MUSEUMTell me & I forget, teach me & I remember, involve me & I learn
The students from grade 3-7 got the chance to go and visit the National Science Centre in Delhi where they had their curiosity piqued and were left pondering about every day phenomenons that happen and go unnoticed. The kids got the whole tour of the the science centre right from early civilization to human biology section, from the dinasour era to fascinating and fun science experiments & optical illusions. It was definitely a trip where the explorers within the kids was evidently visible and it tells us that curiosity at this age will make innovations happen in the future.
