ENGLISHIn the month of December, students got familiar with two literature pieces – ‘Leaving the Valley’ and ‘Says Dogberry to the Watch’. They first watched a video of the play –‘Much Ado About Nothing’ by Shakespeare to understand the extract ‘Says Dogberry to the Watch’. The students enjoyed this hilarious act. ‘Leaving the Valley’ was another extract which enabled the students to discuss the character of the protagonist at length and the various circumstances in the story. In writing, they learnt to differentiate between an Article and a Newspaper Report. They studied few samples of newspaper reports and inferred the format along with practice questions. In grammar, students shared their previous knowledge about Conjunctions as learnt in the previous month in the topic ‘Clauses’ to learn further about the types and subtypes of conjunctions. HINDIपाठ - 'मिठाईवाला' के संवर्धनार्थ गतिविधि के रूप में मिठाईवाले, मुरलीवाले, खिलौनेवाले के संवाद छात्रों द्वारा प्रस्तुत किए गए । जिसमें छात्रों ने लेखक की साहित्यिक कला व योग्यता को जानकर स्वविचारभिव्यक्ति भी दी। पाठ - 'सुश्रुत' के माध्यम से छात्रों ने भारतीय प्राचीनकालीन शल्यचिकित्सा पद्धति के विषय में जानकारी प्राप्त की। छात्रों ने परियोजनात्मक शिक्षण (Project base learning) के रूप में दृश्य श्रव्य सामाग्री के माध्यम से आचार्य वाग्भट्ट, आचार्य चरक और आचार्य सुश्रुत के विषय में जाना । सामूहिक गतिविधि के रूप में चित्रावली द्वारा खोजात्मक शिक्षण करते हुए विषयवस्तु का स्पष्टीकरण प्राप्त किया। रचनात्मकलेखन - छात्रों से वार्तालाप , दूरभाषसंवाद और चलितदूरभाष अर्थात मोबाइल पर मौखिक बातचीत का लिखित प्रपत्र तैयार कराया गया। रचनात्मक खंड में भाषा का पठन-लेखन-श्रवण-संभाषण का अभ्यास करते हुए भाषा ज्ञान प्राप्त किया। संवादलेखन और अनुच्छेदलेखन को भेदानुसार समझते हुए छात्रों ने 'विद्यार्थी जीवन'' , ''विज्ञान वरदान या अभिशाप'' तथा '' शिक्षा-अशिक्षा'' नामक विषयों पर संवादलेखन और अनुच्छेदलेखन अभ्यास किया । FRENCHStudents revised the concepts done in class, attempted their UT2 and recap of colours was also done. They learnt how to frame questions while communicating with shopkeeper in order to make a purchase. They understood the currencies of different countries and an activity was also done related to currencies. GERMANStudents revised the concepts done so far and attempted their UT2. We tuned into the new chapter ‘Wohin fährst du in Urlaub?’ where they learnt the new grammatical concepts like verb- ‘Fahren- to travel’, different präpositionen- in, an, auf etc. A quick recap of seasons, months, weather was also done. As part of written exercise, they wrote about their travel plans, followed by presentation in the class through which conversation practice was also carried out. SANSKRITसंस्कृत पाठ - ''वसुधेव कुटुंबकम'' को छात्रों ने पठन-लेखन-श्रवण-संभाषण का अभ्यास करते हुए भाषा ज्ञान प्राप्त किया। गद्यांश अवबोधन और श्लोकपठन- वाचन करते हुए पद्यांश अवबोधन का अभ्यास किया। शब्दरूप - अकारांत , आकारांत किम् शब्द रूप तीनो लिंगो में सर्वनाम शब्दरूपों का तालिका निर्माण करते हुए अनुवाद कार्य सीखा । धातुरूपों में लोट्लकार, लङ्लकार, विधिलिङ्लकार शब्दरूप - अकारांत और आकारांत का अनुप्रयोग करते हुए के आधार पर लक्षण और पहचान को उदाहरण व प्रत्युदाहरण के रूपों का अनुवाद रूप में अनुप्रयोग कर छात्रों ने उत्साहपूर्वक प्रयोग सीखा । MATHStudents started their unit on ‘Measurement’ with an activity to assess their prior knowledge on the topic and using ‘estimation method’. Based on the activity, they understood the concept of area and perimeter of rectangle and square. They also understood how the formula is derived for area and perimeter. Students learnt to calculate the circumference of circle and area by curvilinear method. They understood the difference between area and perimeter and applied the concept to real-life and identified the places like road, building, park etc to calculate area and perimeter. SCIENCEPhysics: Light Students started their inquiry to the topic ‘Light’. They conducted and observed different activities in the class and lab to learn about :
Chemistry: Wastewater Management Managing domestic, commercial and industrial wastewater is indeed a major problem. The students of Grade 7 had an Inquiry-based session for this topic. They were tuned in with the topic through a video. Ms Preeti Soni, the guest speaker enhanced their knowledge about wastewater management in Indus valley civilization. The students compared the same with today’s system. They were provided with links to research and collect data for wastewater management across the globe. The class was divided into groups of 5 each to represent three countries-India, China and Japan. The delegates (students) of these countries talked about the best practices of their country. This was followed by Q ‘n’ A session and reworking on the boards made by the delegates. Biology: Transportation in Plants and Animals Peer-tutoring activity was held in the class wherein the students prepared in parts about various steps of Circulatory System and discussed with others. SOCIAL SCIENCEHistory: Religious belief and popular movements Students were assessed on their prior knowledge about their ‘Religious Belief’. They gained knowledge about Bhakti movement and Sufi movement and teachings of famous saints like Kabir and GuruNanak Dev ji. They also discussed about different saints Shankaracharya, Ramanuja, Mira Bai, Madhavacharya, Virashavas, Ramananda, Ravidas etc. They also learnt about some of the saints in their Hindi lessons, and presented the dohas and teachings of these saints in class. Civics: Market Around Us We all visit market very often in our daily lives. On the basis of student’s experience of visiting the market, various components were discussed with them. During the course of the lesson, they understood the different types of markets :- street vendors, fixed shops, weekly, general stores, departmental, shopping mall etc. They gained knowledge about wholesale markets and its types. They shared their views about the empowerment of Indian farmers and the challenges faced by them. Understanding the farmers plight, they also suggested some solutions and what the government can do to prevent such challenging situations. Geography The month was devoted to understand in depth about ‘The various lifelines of our economy’ and the means of communication. Children took great interest in sharing their knowledge about destinations of their choice by way of creating brochures and giving a presentation by becoming a travel guide for their choice of destination . They made sure that a major part of their presentation was devoted to the mode of transport used to reach their destination. This not only helped them enhance their knowledge but also hone their presentation and research skills . ICTThe students were Introduced to Python and the process of its installation. They were able to write simple blocks of code. By typing the small chunk of code at the time, they were able to understand every detail of the program that they create. They were able to use interactive and script mode to write a program. INDIAN MUSICIn the month of December, the students learnt Name of the song: “Itni shakti hamai dena data”, ‘Raag Yaman kalyan’ based Alankars . Instruments played: Combination of Harmonium, Introduction of Tabla with simple beets, Tanpura , Markas, Swartarang. Exercises done: Vocal warm up with sargam in different scales. WESTERN MUSICIn the month of December, the students learnt - Lesson taught: Vocal warm up exercise in C minor scale : “Gloria” (Christmas carol) Exercises done: Drums / Staff notation 2/4 Children learnt how to read drums notation using the 5 lines and 4 spaces Instruments taught: Guitar/ keyboard Exercises done: Dynamic (Soft, loud, whispering and yelling) DRAMAStudents understood how to work as a team in the theater. They also understood the various parts of comedy plays and one-acts. They learnt how to portray comic characters in one-acts with the balance of body language and voice modulations. DANCEStudents learnt basics of Indian classical (Kathak) and freestyle dance form. They learnt how to emote different gestures, posture through body language and facial expressions. They also learnt guru vandana, tatkaar, Hastak in kathak dance form. To learn about expressions they practised Navras- nine emotions of dance. For more understanding of rhythm, they learnt teen taal (16 beats)as all Kathak basics are on teen taal. Apart from that, they learnt the choreography on Christmas song by the name “We Wish You A Merry Christmas(funk version)”. ART & POTTERYClay captivates a child’s interest for hours, and it has a calming effect too. LIFE SKILLFor this month, the class was integrated with Social Science. The class started with circle time. Students were asked to imagine that a genie had changed your gender for seven days. Talk about what you would do and how you would behave. Students found out circle time very funny. Students attempted a worksheet “Boys, Girls and their skills, Roles of boys and girls in family and in community. The counsellor explained how people and even they are being judgmental & stereotype at certain situations. ROBOTICSUNIT TOPIC: BASIC OF ELECTRONICS Activity 1 : Motor In this session, students explored different types of motor and working of DC motor by creating a circuit. Activity 2: DIY Motor Making of DIY motor using copper wire and magnet to study the working of a DC motor and understanding the internals of a toy motor to explain parts in it and compare it with the diagram. Activity 3: Logic gates In this session, students explored the concept related to logic gates. They built a hardware logic circuit to understand the use of logic circuit using a switch as input and led as output. ANNUAL CAMP - VISIT TO JAIPUR (26th and 27th DECEMBER)'A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimension.' Education is an enlightenment of oneself to achieve maximum benefit. There are different ways to provide a holistic learning environment and conducting educational tours is among the most creative and alive ways. Grade 5-7 students of Suncity School 37 Gurugram traveled to Jaipur - the pink city for hands on interactive learning. They headed for the Bhamashah Techo Hub, a platform where they were awed by what they saw Latest technologies startup opportunities, a digital museum and a tinkering lab for development of products in an adaptive learning environment. The students explored the VR and AR technology through interesting games and challenges in the museum.Their curiosity and excitement saw no bounds during the interaction round. In the evening ,they visited Chowkidhani and participated in workshops led by master craft persons, saw live performances of traditional music and dance , relished local delicacies, enjoyed rides and traditional games,and got an in depth information about the battle of Haldighati. .The Kalagram was a platform for local artisans and the students made sure to visit the shops got souvenir shopping . The visit to Jantar Mantar was a treat and a window to the contribution made by Indians in the field of Astronomy. A tourist guide took the students through the collection of various architectural astronomical instruments like Sunclocks, Sundial built by the Kachwaha Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh II the founder of Jaipur.The session was quite interactive and informative. The next destination was the very famous architectural marvel, Hawa Mahal which was mesmerizing. Its unique five floors exterior akin to the honeycomb of a beehive with its 953 small windows called Jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework was worth watching. Just wandering around through Jaipur's tiny streets and alleyways was fun in itself. On the way back, the students had an interactive historical session about the Amber Fort and Jal Mahal as the drive past destinations. The journey enabled the students to explore the impressions of Rajput rule through its history,architecture,cultural heritage, cuisine ,handicrafts and warm hospitality. The core objective of enabling students to learn skills like time self management, becoming independent, handling money and effective communication was achieved when they all reached home with memories of their visit and learning, happy and waiting for more.
